SOME AILMENTS AND THEIR HERBAL CURE

Alternative forms of medicine are also thriving in wealthy countries. Among the most popular types of alternative treatment are acupuncture, chiropractic, homeopathy, naturopathy, and herbal medicine. Some of these practices have been scientifically studied and proved beneficial for certain a condition, the effectiveness of certain methods, however, has not been adequately established.          The increased popularity of alternative types of medicine has raised some safety concerns. In many countries such healing therapies are not regulated. This provides an environment where harmful self-medication, counterfeit products, and quackery can thrive. Although being well-intentioned, friends and relatives lacking sufficient training often become self-appointed practitioners. All of this has resulted in adverse reactions and other health hazards.

USE MEDICINAL DRUGS WISELY

When your doctor prescribes medicinal drugs, he no doubt does so with good intentions, basing his prescription on his diagnosis, medical knowledge, and experience. Nevertheless, the patient should not expect his doctor to accept total accountability for his wellbeing. The patient remains responsible for what he takes into his body. When taking prescription medicines, consider the following practical guidelines from a medical doctor: [1] All drugs have side effects. You have a right to know what medication is being prescribed and what its possible side effects are. If your doctor does not provide the information, do not hesitate to ask. In most cases the benefits will outweigh the side effects. But you need to be informed so that you can make an intelligent decision. [2] Drugs effect each individual differently, your doctor cannot predict exactly how a given drug will affect you. If you become alarmed by unexpected side effec

THE REAL MEANING OF CIVILIZATION

Civilization is basically a mental state; not just infrastructural exhibitions, designs, and provisions. This fact is best illustrated by Ralph Waldo Emerson, when in his work Society and Solitude he charged: “The true test of civilization is not the census, nor the size of cities, nor the crops –no, but the kind of man the country turns out.   When we talk about civilization and the modern man, we should talk of what kind of people we are, not what kind of inventions and discoveries we have made. When we try to characterize or assess a civilized man, we should question: Is he humane, kind, and passionate? Is he gentle, intelligent, generous, and creative? Is he internationalist, color-blind, and philanthropic? Is he peace-loving, philosophical, and humble? Is he mystically inclined, curiously exploring the potentialities of the inne

THE POWER OF THE SPOKEN WORD

Science has shown that sound travels from a point of emanation through the air at an astounding 331 meters per second, acting upon the molecular structures within the atmosphere and altering their vibrational rates in a wavelike pattern; after which they are received by the auditory organs of an individual and are interpreted by the conscious mind. That certainly is quite an achievement! But spoken words which are carried as sound waves to another individual possess a more awesome power. Once they are interpreted by the mind of the recipient –far faster than the speed of sound –those words are sent to the heart and to the soul. And what power those words can have! Words can soothe a troubled mind. They can offer guidance and enlightenment; share ideas and knowledge; exhilarate and uplift. On the other hand, words can cause confusion and discord. They can weaken self-esteem, degrade and destabilize the inner self. Words can sometimes hur

UNDERSTANDING YOURSELF

A delicate relationship exists between objective individuality, or self and soul personality, which when balanced is experienced as bliss. Self-mastery is the achievement and maintenance of a state of balance in the relationship between the self and the soul personality through the course and stages of individuation and maturity. In the perspective of the self-soul relationship we may come to a better understanding of hallucinations. Add caption For convenience, we may think of the course of individuation and maturation in four phases. From the viewpoint of the self, the first phase concerns the identity of self as object. The objective individuality is concerned with the mastery of the physical sensations and motivations. In the second phase the self develops its identity as a social entity. It is concerned with the refinement of its relationship with human beings and other creatures. The third phase involves the self with determining i
